What is a Dietitian

Dietitians are uniquely placed to support clients and healthcare professionals - they interpret the complex subject of nutrition to help improve health both pre-emptively and to assist in the treatment of diseases and chronic conditions.  They have the knowledge and skills to educate and give practical advice to clients, patients, carers, and colleagues. They provide dietary advice to help improve or maintain nutritional status, suggesting dietary adaptations to help best manage chronic health conditions.

Registered Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law. All Dietitians are regulated by the HCPC. The HCPC exists to protect the public. They publish a register of dietitians and other health professionals who meet their standards. Only those on the Register can call themselves qualified dietitians.
